Pokémon Party
Pokémon is all the rage right now, I guess it has been. My son, Landen, is just finally of that age where him and all of his friends are so into it! Being as how it’s popular amongst the kiddos, why not have a Pokémon birthday party, right!?!?! I literally threw a little Pokémon party together within a night and on a budget! Who doesn’t like to save time and money!
Throughout this article, I mention the use of my own Party Rental business and have intent to promote and/or make a profit from it through recommendation.
Now, a couple of the items that I used, I already had, but you can improvise and gather similar items to make your party just as so. I had already owned the balloon arch, which I purchased from Amazon for under $20.00. If you plan on using the balloon arch, I advise to order it sooner rather than later, to make sure that you have it in time for your party. If you don’t have the time or want to spend the money, you can buy a balloon garland kit or strip and make a balloon arch that way. I also already owned the tables, chairs, and tablecloths. You can rent the tables and chairs from your local party rental business (If you live in the California 209 area, we run a table and chair business. Check us out on Instagram http://instagram.com/party_enhancements.) Although, I would recommend a round table for the Pokémon ball effect, you can use a rectangular table just as well. As I said, I already owned the tablecloths, but you can rent a red and a white tablecloth or you can purchase them at your local party store; to save a little mula, you can grab a couple from the Dollar Store. Double stack them for a more vibrant color.

I used my Cricut to make all of the Pokémon cutouts. I can understand the frustration if you do not own a Cricut. You can still get the Pokémon look by just making the Pokémon balls and using only those for your center pieces. (If you are really wanting the Pokémon cutouts and have the time, email me at Prettiesttothet@gmail.com and for a small fee, I can help you create the look that you are looking for by making them myself and mailing them to you.)
The Pokémon ball centerpieces were really easy! I purchased all of the materials from the Dollar Store. I bought a variety of Styrofoam balls and circles, wooden dowel sticks, red paint, black ribbon, colored shredded paper grass, rocks, and mini colored cans. Shove a wooden dowel stick in the bottom of the ball, be sure not to shove it all the way through and try to keep it as centered as possible. Around the Styrofoam balls and circles, I wrapped some tape around the mid center of them, horizontally. You can buy the tape from the Dollar Store, if needed. On the top half of the balls, paint them red, keeping the bottom of that tape white. Place them in a tall cup to dry. Once they are dry, remove the tape and wrap a piece of the black ribbon around the ball, where the tape once was, trying to hide any mess ups where the red paint could have bled through onto the white parts. You can use a glue gun to hold the ribbon in place, or purchase some glue/double sided sticky dots, also from the Dollar Store. If you do use a glue gun, don’t over use the glue, to much glue can create a hole by eating through the Styrofoam based on the heat that the glue gives off; I personally used a glue gun for mine. Now that you are this far, with some black material, (you can use construction paper, I used black felt) cut out a small circle to glue in the dead center of the balls, on top of the ribbon. Then cut a smaller white circle to put in the center of the black circle. There ya go, a POKEMON BALL!!! Super cute, right! It’s that easy!! Now that you are done creating your Pokémon balls, use your little rocks as an anchor by placing them in the little cans. Input the wooden dowel sticks with your Pokémon balls into the rocks and then place the grass over the rocks, hiding them.
Place your tape horizontally around your Styrofoam balls.
Paint the top half of the tape, red. Try and not to get the paint on the bottom half of the tape, leaving the bottom half white.
After leaving the Pokémon balls to dry, wrap the black ribbon around the center of the balls, horizontally. On top of the ribbon, in the center, place your white and black little cut outs. This will create the final touches to your Pokémon ball.
I purchased 2-3 bags of red, yellow, black, and white balloons from the Dollar Store, I believe 15 come to a bag. You can, of course find these at your local party store, Hobby Lobby, or even order some from Amazon. I blew them up all different sizes to create my balloon arch. At the end of the balloon arch, I placed a Pikachu balloon, purchased from a party store for $14.00.
To add a little more pizazz to the dessert table, I wrapped up an amazon box in red wrapping paper and used the box as a cupcake pedestal. Throughout the table, I used what Pokemon toys we already owned as decorations.
This is the pedestal that was created out of an Amazon box and some red wrapping paper.
The cake was purchased at Save Mart; as I mentioned before, this party was very last minute so I didn’t have time to put in a cake order. I got lucky and found a Mickey Mouse cake that had the same color scheme. I removed the Mickey Mouse decorations and put in my own cake topper that I made using my Cricut. I also bought some black and white Graduation cupcakes and removed the graduation rings that were used as a cupcake topper and stuck in my own little cupcake toppers that I also made with my Cricut. I then, added some red and yellow sprinkles to both the cake and cupcakes. By making these few changes to the cake and cupcakes, it made the Pokémon dessert table look all so Pokémon worthy!
Cake before working my magic!
Cake, after working my magic!!
Weapons of choice: Sprinkles, Toppers, & Cupcake Cups.
Prior to this look, they had graduating rings on them as toppers. I improvised by using sprinkles, cupcake cups, and replacing the the rings with homemade toppers.
Onto the guest table. I used a white and red tablecloth, a white circular tray, (you can use a plate, plaque, or cut out a white circle using a poster board) and some electric tape. I didn’t use a black, larger circle to go under the white tray, but should have. Using the larger black circle would have made it look more like a Pokémon ball. I folded the white and red tablecloth in half and with the black electric tape, I taped them together down the center of the table. On top of that, in the center of the table, I place the white, circular tray. As a final touch, I placed the centerpieces that I made onto the tray with some Pokémon toys to surround that.
There ya go, a Pokémon party done within hours.
