Home Face Lift

Are you like me, where you sometimes just sit there, look around and just think to yourself, “I want something new, change it up a little bit in here,” but don’t want to spend a whole lot of money or make any extravagant changes in the house such as buying new furniture or home decor. Story of my life!!! I am constantly changing things around the house, making minor upgrades, or adding a little pizzazz to create a new feel. My husband says I drive him crazy with all of my home projects, whats that saying, “Happy wife, happy life?” 🙂

They’re tons of ways to change up your home, it all just depends on the extent you’re willing to go, how much work you’re willing to do, and how much time and money you’re able to invest. Like most people, we are limited on all of the above. Great News!!!! There’s still hope! I absolutely love and adore DIY projects, this ties into the look of your home, or how you can possibly envision the look of your home yet to come. Okay, so obviously you have to start with something, and something isn’t always free, a matter of fact, it’s usually never free. Sad Story, I know! But we can always work on a budget! First things first, I always shop around for the best price, greatest deal, search for who’s having sales and possibly what coupons are floating around out there that can save me a little money. Secondly, I ask myself, “what am I capable of?” Now that I have some ideas of what I can afford and what I can do with what I can afford, I can began to brainstorm and visualize my decided project. Still with me? Yay! Now the fun can began!!

Your home is almost like an empty canvas; of course with limits and owning your own home, but with those two things in mind, you can do just about an endless amount of things to it. My house doesn’t look anything like the house we originally moved into. More on that another time. Onto the simple things around your home that can make a big difference…. A FACE LIFT! One of my favorite stores is Home Depot, funny I know, but I honestly get excited to walk into Home Depot with a little money. Some great buys from Home Depot that can make some big changes around your home are: paint, spray paint, wood pickets or other shapes and sizes of wood, and their garden section (PLANTS!). One of my main centerpieces in my living-room (other than my fireplace, of course) is a wooden sign that I made from a couple pieces of wood pickets that I bought from Home Depot and some paint. I get so many compliments on it! It simply states our families last name and the year that our family began as a family. Check out ________ on how to make this sign in more depth!

Another great thing to do, that I personally did to my living-room that made quite a big difference, was spray painting some letters that I already had hanging up. Who doesn’t have “H-O-M-E” hanging somewhere up in their house? It’s the in thing nowadays and is cheap and takes up a pretty big chunk of your wall. You can base the size of your letters on the space of your wall, also, it doesn’t have to say home, you can have it spell out anything you want! (Some ideas: your last name, family, love, faith, blessed, eat, gathering, etc.) You can also get creative and use a cute greenery or a wreath as the letter “o”. Anyways, I purchased a can of spray paint from Target, (whom are great at returns, if you spray a piece and don’t like the color, exchange it before it’s to late-you didn’t hear that from me-at least I have had prior luck with this), and painted a large H, M, and E that I had previously purchased from Hobby Lobby a couple years ago. My “o” is a wreath. I painted them a deep blue but found that it looked to “farmy” for me. If that’s the look you’re going for, this color would be great for you, Rust-Oleum Chalked Coastal Blue. Because I didn’t care that much for the blue, I found that I wanted to go a different direction and went lighter…. lighter but with a POP! I went with a gray; gray is such a safe and pretty color, Rust-Oleum Chalked Country Gray. I liked how this came out so much that I spray painted a lamp and a couple of vases to two little tree accents that I have up. Since we are on the topic of my spray paint binge, I also had two wooden carved wall decor pictures that I spray painted white, also came out beautiful!!

[ I must warn you though. don’t spray paint items that you think or foresee being handled. As much as the spray paint cans boast about how well the bond is or the great quality of the adhesive, I personally wouldn’t chance it. I would hate to recommend that you paint something that is in already great condition, but you just want a different color and then it becomes ruined all together because it’s now all scratched up or chipped. The items that I recommend to paint are items that will not be handled, items like picture frames, wall decor, home accents that just look pretty on a shelf, etc. If you have come across a brand or product that you have personally tried and it has not scratched or chipped, please post in the comment section. I would love to hear about the product and the experience with the product!! ]

Seriously, with these little changes, A CAN OF SPRAY PAINT GUYS…. my living-room looks so different! The right kind of different too, the kind of different that I was going for! I know that I pre-owned the items that I spray painted, but you can do this with so many different things. If you’re on a really tight budget and just don’t have the items laying around your house, try the obvious places: thrift stores, yard sales, FB market and some of my favorites: TJMaxx, Marshalls, and Home Goods….. You may not be initially impressed with the accent, but remember, for the right price and a can of spray paint, you can and will transform it to fit your style of choice for your home!

Another great investment is a bucket of paint!!! Depending on how big your house is, a bucket or two can paint all of your (guest visible) floor boards, interior doors and door frames, and if you have any, other wooden moldings. You will be stunned with the after look; it will look so much more cleaner, brighter and open.

Plants!!! I love plants, I don’t have the greatest green thumb, but for the most part, my plants are still standing. Greenery can also make your house look different for a reasonable price. They can make a beautiful statement piece; they show character! They can make your house look brighter and fresh, just don’t get carried away and over indulge in putting plants all over your house. I buy a lot of my vases at Ross, they have great prices for very pretty vases. When I have a particular look in mind though, because it’s Ross which means hit or miss, I will go to Target, right around the corner from me, and they usually have just the look I was wanting. Target can be a bit more pricey when comparing the stores, so keep that in mind. Try TJMaxx, Home Goods, or Marshalls also, if you are on a tight budget and have the time and patience to shop around for what you’re looking for.

I can seriously go and on about the limitless things that you can do to give your home a minor but significant face lift, as for now, I will sign off and share more ideas in other posts, hope you stay tuned and check them out!!!

Any questions, please feel free to comment or email me directly! As always, Thank you for tuning in 🙂
